  • Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in working adults today.  Our mission is to prevent vision loss due to diabetes.  All diabetic patients need a dilated eye examination with retinal photos on a yearly basis.  Our doctors will discuss the results of your eye exam with you, as well as send a report to your primary care physician. Dr. Woody is actively involved in diabetes education and research.  Click on Diabetes and Vision  to read more about how diabetes affects your vision and your life, as well as how complications can be prevented.  Learn more about diabetes and the eye by watching Diabetic Retinopathy Overview
  • Do your eyes feel dry, scratchy, itchy or burn?  Or do they water too much?  All of these may be symptoms of Dry Eye Syndrome, a chronic disease that can damage the surface of the eyes and cause loss of vision. Blepharitis is a disease of the eyelids that can cause red, irritated, itchy eyes, reduced vision, and potentially cause permanent damage to both your eyelids and the surface of your eyes. Left untreated, it can become very serious and irreversible.
  • All of us will develop cataracts at some point in our lives, most commonly in the late fifties or early sixties.  When you need cataract surgery, our optometrists will advise you on the best surgeons in the Upstate.   We've seen the amazing results patients have achieved with the latest implant lens technology, allowing patients to see clearly near and far, without glasses!
  • If you're thinking about lasik surgery, you want an experienced eye care team.  Dr. Steck has been involved in caring for lasik patients since the procedure was first performed in Greenville in 1996, and had her own eyes treated by Dr. Jonathan Woolfson in 1998.  Dr. Nowell also had lasik surgery in May 2013 by Dr. Woolfson.  Call for your consultation to find out if you're a candidate!
  • There's no question that good vision is important for learning. Experts say more than 80% of what your child is taught in school is presented to them visually. According to the American Optometric Association, children should have an eye exam by no later than 6 months old, then again by age 3, and just before starting school. School-age children need an exam every year after that even if they have no visual problems. Two, of our doctors, Dr. Amy Nowell and Dr. Rachel Tanner, specialize in pediatric eye care and have completed extensive training in pediatric vision.
